The Iraq Policy and Operations Group assists in the interagency coordination of the multi-faceted involvement of US government agencies in Iraq. She has a team of 15 people who work to support interagency collaboration on all Iraq issues. She graduated from the University of Chicago in 1988 with a Political Science/French degree. She also has an MA from Columbia in International Finance, 1997. She spent nine years in the Foreign Service serving in Lithuania, the United Nations in New York and at the Office of Foreign Missions in San Francisco. She spent four years in International Business Development at Macromedia, Inc. then came back to be the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary and Chief Financial Officer at the Department of State in 2003. Jim Przystup studied Japanese at Columbia University and at Keio University in Tokyo. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Przystup served as the Director of the Asian Studies Center at The Heritage Foundation. For close to twenty years, he has worked on Asia-related issues. He served on the staff of the United States House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Affairs; in the private sector at Itochu and IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation; and in the United States government on the Policy Planning Staff at the Department of State and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Director for Regional Security Strategies on the Policy Planning Staff. In 1983-84 Mr. Przystup served as the Deputy Director of the Presidential Advisory Commission on U.S.-Japan relations. He has specialized in Asian security issues in particular the US-Japan and the US-Republic of Korea security relationships. Mr. Przystup was presented with the State Department's Meritorious Honor Award in 1989 and in 1991; he also received the Defense Department's Outstanding Achievement Award in 1992. Currently, at Institute for National Strategic Studies, he is involved in long-term strategic planning toward East Asia and on-going policy toward Japan, Korean Peninsula, China and Southeast Asia. Dr. Kleinman received his SB, MD and PhD from the University of Chicago in 1966, 1973 and 1974, respectively. His graduate studies with A. Heller and P. Hoffmann involved the effects of monoamines on carbohydrate metabolism in the rat brain. Dr. Kleinman did an internship at San Francisco General Hospital and residencies in psychiatry and neurology at Massachusetts Mental Health Center and George Washington University, respectively. He joined the NIMH as a Fellow in 1976, became a Section Chief in 1984, and has done research on schizophrenia for 29 years with an emphasis on postmortem studies. The research of the lab has identified twenty to thirty genes that increase the risk for schizophrenia. Dr. Kleinman is a past President of the Society of Biological Psychiatry and a recipient of the A. E. Bennett Award and an Outstanding Service Medal from the U.S.P.H.S. His section explores the neuropathology of schizophrenia.
