Will externs be paid? No, the externships are unpaid, but the experience is priceless!

Who will cover the cost of housing and transportation to and from any externship site? Students are responsible for funding housing costs and transportation costs to the externship site. Students should only apply for externships that they will be able to complete.

Will I be able to put the externship on my resume? Yes, however the externship will be principally an opportunity for you to get exposure to a field of interest, not to develop skills in a field.

What if I have no experience in the career field I would like to investigate in this externship? That's OK. All you need to show is sincere interest in your application letter about the field as a possible career.

Can students apply to multiple externships? Yes. We encourage you to. This enhances your chances of obtaining an externship. We also encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to think broadly about areas you might want to explore.

Will there be an interview? No. The selection decision will be entirely based upon the application materials you submit.

Am I eligible? I am currently a 2nd year student but I am planning on graduating at the end of my 3rd year. Can I still apply? Yes, you are eligible to apply. Please note: InterviewTrak will only accept applications from students registered as having a graduation date of June-December 2009-2010. Please double check that your profile is properly set-up.

Who can help me with my application? CAPS staff members are available Monday-Friday during walk-in hours 11:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. and are happy to review your application. In fact, having a CAPS staff member review your resume is necessary for activation on InterviewTrak (the CAPS-wide application processing system).

I think every student should really try and take advantage of this unique program. You don’t get many opportunities in life to shadow someone this willingly and so open to your thoughts and questions.
