The Alumni Club/Alumni Association Partnership

Effective volunteer leaders depend on a strong supportive relationship with the Alumni Office. Each partner in this relationship has specific responsibilities for the success of the alumni club.

The Alumni Association supports alumni clubs in a variety of ways, many of which are listed below. Please check with your Alumni Office staff liaison for the specific resources available for your club.

  • Provide staff assistance and advice for planning events and recruiting local alumni. Alumni Office staff liaison will communicate with club leaders on a regular basis and visit in person when feasible.
  • Plan, market, and subsidize Harper lectures. Your staff liaison will make all travel arrangements for the lecturer. The frequency of lectures depends on the size and activity level of the club.
  • Pay for postage and printing of club mailings.
  • Send regular broadcast e-mails to all alumni living in your region for whom we have good e-mail addresses.
  • Post events on Alumni Association’s Web calendar.
  • Provide event supplies (i.e.: name tags, attendance forms, student newspapers, etc.).
  • Provide training for volunteers at the annual Volunteer Leadership Caucus.

The Alumni Association asks that Alumni Clubs:

  • Take the lead in planning events that provide opportunities for alumni to strengthen their commitment to and support of the University.
  • Create and execute a diverse series of events (please use the Suggested Events as an aid).
  • Identify and recruit enthusiastic alumni to help the club plan events.
  • Provide updated lists of board members and/or volunteers and submit an annual report to the Alumni Association.
